About Me
Hi, I’m Gisselle Tosta. My love for math started most ordinarily: playing pretend “math teacher” with my cousins back in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. I didn’t know it then, but those childhood games planted the seed for a lifelong passion for teaching and learning.
When I moved to California, math became my anchor. It gave me structure when everything else felt uncertain. I went on to study mathematics at California State University, Northridge, where I truly fell in love with the subject. Along the way, I worked as an independent tutor and in-class support at Granada Hills High School, where I had one of those unforgettable moments that confirmed I was meant to teach.
After earning my degree, I pursued my dream of becoming a high school math teacher. I moved to Maui, Hawaii, where I had the freedom to get creative with my lessons, collaborate on curriculum, and even design my own. Teaching in Maui gave me confidence that I could make math exciting and approachable for any student, and it showed me how powerful education can be when it blends structure with creativity.
From the classroom, I transitioned into my first role in educational technology as a Math Content Developer at Aktiv Learning, which was later acquired by Top Hat. There, I created interactive, gradable math content that gave students a fresh way to engage with the subject. The process of turning abstract concepts into something measurable and accessible was both challenging and fun. I also had the chance to put my Python skills (self-taught during 2020’s lockdown) to work, adding a technical dimension to my creativity in math education.
In 2024, my path took an exciting turn toward AI. I began working with Squirrel AI as a Senior Curriculum Designer, where I wrote math lessons, created animations, filmed myself teaching, and edited the final videos; pretty much a crash course in full production that gave me a solid background in video creation. From there, I expanded into roles as an AI tutor and data trainer with companies like Outlier, Pareto.AI, and Translated (Italy), before landing in my current role at xAI. At xAI, I work as an AI Tutor, helping train Grok to understand and respond with accuracy, honesty, and a spark of fun.
Recently, I was accepted into the Master of Science in Applied Artificial Intelligence program at the University of San Diego, where I’ll deepen my knowledge of AI while continuing my work at xAI. My ultimate vision is to create a learning center that blends math education with AI—offering a space where students who want to push ahead can thrive, and those who need extra support can feel seen, supported, and inspired.
Outside of work, I’m also an artist and entrepreneur. I love creating resin art, building creative projects, and experimenting with new ideas that mix technology and design. Whether it’s math, AI, or art, I see it all as different expressions of curiosity and problem-solving.
At the heart of it all, I believe learning should be joyful, creative, and accessible. And I’m on a mission to help future generations not just solve equations, but also see themselves as problem solvers, innovators, and creators.
